Tech Term of the Month - May 2023: Fiber Splice

Fiber optic splicing is the process of joining two fiber strands together. This sometimes needs to be done in the field during a construction project or at a member's home to link multiple fiber strands together in the event they are too long to fit inside a single piece of casing, or if the fiber lines have been damaged. Splicing is a very technical process that requires in-depth knowledge and training.

Below: DirectLink Splicer Jerry Slater demonstrates how to splice two fiber optic strands together in 2019 for visiting 5th grade STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) summer camp students.
