The Canby Rotary Foundation, Inc. awards scholarship grants designed to provide financial assistance to qualified individuals who are or will be enrolled as students in any college, university, technical or trade school. These awards are intended to provide financial assistance to students pursuing an advanced education in a degree program of study.

Scholarships will be awarded from four separate funds, each with differing eligibility requirements. These funds are:

1. Canby Rotary Foundation Scholarship
2. DirectLink Fund of the Canby Rotary Foundation
3. Dick Brown Scholarship Fund
4. Don Peterson Memorial Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Selection of award recipients will be made through a scholarship selection committee comprised of members of the Canby Rotary Foundation, Inc. The committee will have responsibility for determining the amount and number of awards, and the recipient of those awards from the written applications and from personal reviews, if requested. Funds may be awarded to graduating high school seniors or college students as determined by the eligibility requirements for each fund. All awards are at the discretion of the selection committee.

Described below are the eligibility requirements and application process for each of the three specific scholarships funds.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

A. CANBY ROTARY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP:

1. Applicant must be a current high school senior or a college student progressing satisfactorily toward graduation.
2. Applicant's permanent residence must be within the Canby School District attendance area.
3. Applicant must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 through the 11th trimester of high school. In the case of a college student, a minimum GPA of 2.5 must have been maintained through the last completed term or semester.

B. DIRECTLINK FUND SCHOLARSHIP:

1. Applicant must be a current high school senior or a college student progressing satisfactorily toward graduation.
2. Applications will be accepted only from current DirectLink subscribers or immediate family members legally residing in the subscriber or customer household. High School students, meeting the above requirement and attending any high school, such as Canby High School, Molalla High School, North Marion High School or a private high school.
3. Applicant must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 through the 11th trimester of high school. In the case of a college student, a minimum GPA of 2.5 must have been maintained through the last completed term or semester.

C. DICK BROWN SCHOLARSHIP:

1. The student must have a 3.0 grade point average or better. All grade point averages over 3.0 are given equal weighting.
2. Student must be involved in extracurricular activity including but not limited to sports, band, religion, and drama. More weight should be given to those students who intend to continue these activities during their college career.
3. Student plans to attend a small college in the Pacific Northwest such as Linfield, Pacific, University of Puget Sound, University of Portland, Seattle Pacific, or George Fox universities.
4. Some preference will be given if the student has overcome obstacles over their lifetime. Obstacles could include family issues, learning or physical impairments.
5. Student must be a senior at Canby High School.

D. DON PETERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:

1. The student must have a 3.0 grade point average or better.
2. Strong writing skills are required.
3. The student should have strong leadership abilities as demonstrated by:
   • Vision and perseverance to see a project to completion (eg. Non-profit fundraising, community improvement, unique science experiment, etc.)
   • Led a project or created a new idea and followed it through as an officer of student government or a club (sports, music, drama, dance, technology, etc.)

Note – a written description of your strong leadership skills as defined above should be included in your application information, IN ADDITION to the other required documentation outlined in the application.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

1. Complete the application form.
2. A complete unofficial transcript of grades and credits available must be presented with the application when submitted. (Enrolled college students need submit transcript only.)
3. Attach to the application two letters of recommendation, one from a current instructor/teacher, administrator or counselor, and one from a non-school/non-family member person. In the case of a previous Canby Rotary Scholarship recipient, no letters of recommendation are required.

AWARDING THE GRANT

1. Applicant must be available to meet with the selection committee, if selected, as a finalist for award.
2. Applicant must verify high school graduation or current enrollment in a post high school educational institution.
3. Recipients will be notified of procedures for disbursement of scholarship funds by the Canby Rotary Foundation, Inc.
4. Funds awarded will be paid directly to the college and must be used for tuition, school fees or books, but not living expenses. If the amount of the grant exceeds tuition, fees and books, the balance may be used the succeeding year.
5. Termination of the student's school program will result in the cancellation of any award, and any remaining funds will not be disbursed.
6. Recipients will be expected to attend a Canby Rotary Club luncheon meeting to receive personal recognition and communicate to the members of Canby Rotary Club the recipient's educational goals.
